Sports in the Morning 6am - 9am
The John is a single, non-smoking, well-groomed, potty-trained preppy who grew up in the city and tries to stay fit. His loves are radio, sports, golf, beautiful yet unpretentious women (so hard to find), and the occasional seven-layer burrito. He lives every moment by the philosophy of Homer…Simpson that is. We won’t say John’s a metrosexual, but let’s just say he’s very comfortable wearing his salmon shirt (it’s NOT pink!) and doing yoga. And, yes, ladies, he leaves the toilet seat down.
HOMETOWN:
Omaha, Nebraska
LITTLE KNOWN FACTS ABOUT ME:
I truly feel that Phil Collins may very well be the Shakespeare of our times. Who else could come up with, “just say the word, Ooooooh…Su-Su-Sudio!!!”…OK…Don’t hate me cause I’m a Cornhusker! I grew up in Omaha, then went to Lincoln and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.J. degree (seriously…Bachelor’s of Journalism), but should’ve gotten a B.S. After that, a two-year stint in Medford, Oregon, as a sportscaster on both TV and radio…I’m almost affluent in one language. I hate hot dogs. I’m allergic to cats. Oh, and who do I feel is the REAL Shakespeare of our times? George Carlin, hands down.
STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE:
Any time I take shots of Jagermeister is the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. Just ask my esophagus the next morning.
MOST ANNOYING HABIT:
Biting my fingernails. I don’t smoke, so I have to have some outlet!
FAVORITE MUSIC:
If a gun were held to my head, it’d be classic rock. If I wanted the gun to go off, it’d be anything by Barry Manilow. But good music is good music. I’ve gotten into old school jazz. Modern favorites: Weezer, Maroon Five, Phish, The Offspring, John Mayer, and the Phunk Junkees. Have hated country for most of my life, but can tolerate some of it. Quite willing to belt out Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” at any watering hole on any given night. Oh, and I love Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson…when they’re on MTV and the “mute” button is on!
WHAT LED ME TO RADIO
When I heard how lavishly I’d get paid…OR perhaps the fact that when I was on TV, I couldn’t speak my mind and be a clown. Now, I can…and I learn from the best. Also, inspiration from wiseacres like Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Dennis Miller, Jon Stewart, and Craig Kilborn and sportscasters like Jack Buck, Colin Cowherd, and Harry Carey (Ho-ly Cow!)
IF I WAS NOT A DJ, I WOULD BE:
Modeling underwear, helping solve world hunger, or failing miserably to earn my Professional Golfers Association Tour card.
FAVORITE RADIO MOMENT:
Calling play-by-play of a Nebraska football game. It was for the campus radio station and therefore about 12 people heard it (my parents and the stoners who were too lazy to turn the dial), but it was a rush like I’ve never known.
